Left to Right: Henja Schaap (Fashion Designer), Denver Burns (Mr South Africa 2010) and Christopher Hlanganyana (2nd Runner Up Mr South Africa 2008)
Saturday 6 November, 2010:
It was my time to sit in front of the judges for the 1st time, I said a quick prayer to calm me down before I entered the room and then I introduced myself to the 3 judges and shook their hands.
They ask me to tell a bit about myself and so I told them who I am, where I'm from and what I do.
The Questions continued..
I was really impressed with the judging process, from what I could gather they wanted to see if I could talk properly, if I could do more than 1 language (Afrikaans/English) that was a good thing.
Denver(Current Mr.SA) also took a different approach to the questioning than what I expected and asked me about Global warming and what am I doing to prevent it, it was clear that he felt very strongly about this issue which is awesome. Henja Schaap (Fashion Designer) was more concerned about my pronunciations and quickly corrected me if I had had mixed languages or used shorted terms for proper names which is also a good thing as Mr.SA must sound well educated. They really tested my knowledge and wanted to hear if I knew what was going on in this country and also my opinions on certain issues like the effect the "World Cup" had on SA.
Christopher Hlanganyana (2nd Runner up Mr South Africa 2008) smiled and was very friendly through-out the interview. Overall I felt relaxed in the interview and feel I gave some constructive answers but I also feel I knew a bit more about certain issue's but just couldn’t find the words to express it properly at the time.
I will surely give a little finer attention to certain issues in our country.
Thank you to the Judges for their time, I knew Denver had to fly away again right after the Judging process.
Regards
Lian Fourie
