4 November 2010:
I had the privilege to attend a “Candlelight Charity Concert for Children with Cancer” at
Southdowns College. It was held on their Sports Field in Centurion. The organizer of this event was 17 year old Shaugnah Ambros. The main aim of the concert was to raise fund for a 2year old little boy dying of cancer. The whole school is very talented at performing arts and music; it was amazing to see how teenagers performed brilliantly on a stage that “Coca Cola” supplied. It was very impressive but at the same time very chilled as there was a feeling of gathering as family members and scholars took the field with camping chairs and danced along while they performed.
5fm & Jacaranda also advertised this event, I spoke to Dianne Broodryk of Jacaranda that was also involved and found out that the girl that organized the whole event did it in 3weeks! It’s amazing to see how the youth are now becoming more aware and involved with concerning issues of the public.
I also had the honour of meeting the current Miss SA Nicole Flint, she is such a wonderful, energetic and beautiful person. I took a picture with her at the function.
It was amazing to experience such a loving community within a school.
The event was a great success and I met some amazing people in the process!
Regards
Lian Fourie
